Technical Analyst

The man himself

About Me

I love technology.

From my formative years using an Acorn computer in the early 90s to creating home movies and mastering non-linear digital editing and DVD production during my Sixth Form and University years, technology has always been at the core of my interests. Currently, I serve as an IT Specialist for the Clinical School of Medicine at the University of Cambridge, bringing together my varied experiences and love for technological innovation.

In my present role, I'm assisting with a recovery operation of the scientific computers on Cambridge's prodigious Biomedical Campus. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of both University and clinical research operations, as well the technical competence expected of a typical SysAdmin role.

Before joining the University of Cambridge I specialised in enterprise software support, serving as a Technical Analyst for Oracle's adtech division. This role demanded a comprehensive understanding of the software we supported and an in-depth knowledge of the advertising industry. Transitioning from my previous role as an ICT Manager in education to this position presented new challenges that I eagerly embraced. While the day-to-day workload was less voluminous compared to the public sector, the technical complexities were far greater, constantly pushing me to acquire new skills and knowledge.

Prior to that, I managed the ICT Services department of an academy chain in Cambridge. I started as a Media & ICT Technician but quickly shifted my focus exclusively to ICT. My dedication and continuous learning enabled me to progress rapidly, eventually leading a department of seven technicians across four secondary schools and two sixth form colleges. My team and I managed and maintained approximately 1,500 computers, 50 servers (both virtual and physical), the network infrastructure, and the audio-visual technology for an organization with 230 employees and over 2,000 students. Additionally, I ensured compliance with software licenses and developed SLAs and ICT policies for both staff and students.

Throughout my career, my unwavering enthusiasm for technology has driven me to continuously seek new challenges and opportunities for growth, always aiming to learn new systems and skillsets.
